Residents of Eket Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State have raised concerns over the long-abandoned Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Channel 35 Station, describing its deteriorating condition as a major loss to the community.
Built nearly 19 years ago and reportedly fully equipped, staffed, and test-run, the facility has remained unused since its completion. According to findings, the station facilitated by Chief Nduese Essien during his tenure as the House of Representatives member for Eket Federal Constituency has now fallen into disrepair, overtaken by bushes and infested by reptiles and rodents.
During an inspection of the site, the President-General of the Ekid People’s Union, Dr. Samuel Udonsak, lamented the neglect of what he described as a “worthwhile and people-oriented project” with significant potential for local development. He expressed disappointment that such a valuable investment was allowed to waste away without any attempt at commissioning or utilization.
Dr. Udonsak urged relevant authorities to revive the station, noting that its reactivation would align with the ongoing digital switch-over in Nigeria’s information and broadcasting sector.

Residents say reviving the NTA Channel 35 Station would not only boost local broadcasting but also create opportunities for media practitioners and strengthen the flow of information within the region.
