In what police described as a major breakthrough in the fight against crime, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have recovered a suspected stolen vehicle loaded with dangerous weapons after a dramatic midnight pursuit in Uyo.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the operation took place at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025, when a surveillance patrol team on routine stop-and-search duty along Mbak Itam III by Nassarawa Market flagged down a black Toyota Camry with registration number LND 360 DC.
The occupants of the car—four in number—allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush upon sighting the police team.
A subsequent search of the abandoned car yielded a cache of dangerous weapons and items believed to be tools of criminal activity. Among the recovered items were:
Two locally made pistols
Four live cartridges
Two Tecno Android phones
One battle axe
One machete
One battery charger
Two vehicle number plates (Reg. No. BKS 705 DD)
Two black head gears
The vehicle has since been impounded as an exhibit while police intensify efforts to track down the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare fsi, commended the patrol team for their vigilance and professionalism, ordering a “discreet and comprehensive investigation” to ensure the culprits are brought to justice.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” CP Azare assured.
Residents of Uyo have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
