Eket, As Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections, a civic advocacy group under the banner of Eket Federal Constituency Vanguard for Democracy has issued a passionate call to voters in the Eket Federal Constituency, urging them to remember the region’s political and economic disappointments before casting their ballots.
In a strongly worded press statement titled “Before You Cast Your Vote in 2027, Let Memory Whisper to You,” the group implored constituents to reflect on the “betrayals and broken promises” that have marred the constituency’s progress over the years.
Referencing the controversial “China Market” project — which the group described as a failed scheme that resulted in financial losses for many local women and families — the statement painted a vivid picture of a community “robbed of dignity and prosperity.”
“Remember the deceit, the fraud, the cold-hearted scam that robbed our mothers of their hard-earned savings,” the group declared. “Let these memories burn like fire in our veins.”
The Vanguard also highlighted long-standing land disputes and the loss of young lives in past communal crises, attributing such unrest to poor leadership and political greed.
Calling for a political awakening, the group urged voters in the Eket axis to rise above what it termed “political puppetry” and make choices guided by truth, justice, and patriotism in the coming elections.
“Ekid Federal Constituency deserves better,” the group emphasized. “It is time to reclaim our dignity, to think for ourselves, and to chart a bold new future.”
The statement concluded with a stern warning: “If we fail again to rise, our failure will become our greatest undoing, and history will not forgive us.”
With the 2027 elections fast approaching, the Eket Federal Constituency Vanguard for Democracy’s message adds to the growing chorus of civil society voices demanding accountability, reform, and a more people-focused leadership.
