ABUJA: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved its Akwa Ibom State Executive Committee, replacing it with a 31-member Caretaker Committee to oversee the party’s affairs in the state.
The decision was made during the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, in accordance with the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017). According to the party, the move is aimed at repositioning the Akwa Ibom chapter and ensuring effective coordination ahead of future political activities.
The newly constituted Caretaker Committee will run the affairs of the PDP in Akwa Ibom for an initial period not exceeding three months, or until a new executive committee is elected.
The committee is chaired by Igwat Umoren, with Harrison Ekpo serving as Deputy Chairman and Borono Bassey as Secretary. Other members include legal, youth, and women leaders, as well as representatives from various segments of the party.
In a statement signed by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the NWC urged all party leaders, stakeholders, and members in Akwa Ibom State to remain united and committed to the party’s progress.
The statement emphasized the importance of internal cohesion and pledged that the transition process would be transparent, inclusive, and aimed at strengthening the party’s base in the state.
The full list of the caretaker committee members includes 31 names, reflecting a diverse mix of political experience and party representation.
This development marks a significant restructuring within one of PDP’s strongholds and is expected to influence the party’s strategy ahead of forthcoming elections.
