UYO, The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has begun investigations into the mysterious death of a 45-year-old man, Mr. Udeme Sunday Uko, who was discovered in a pool of blood inside a church in Ikot Oku Usung, Ukanafun Local Government Area.
According to a police statement issued on Wednesday, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at about 12:10 a.m., while the deceased, his wife, and children were asleep in the church premises.
Police said a gunshot was heard within the church, and Mr. Uko was later found with a fatal head injury suspected to have been caused by a firearm. Preliminary findings suggest the possibility of either suicide or an attack by unknown assailants.

The Command noted that the alarm was raised by the victim’s wife, prompting concerned villagers to alert the police. A team of officers was immediately deployed to the scene, where a locally made pistol was recovered. The body of the deceased has since been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
