IKOT EKPENE, Excitement is sweeping across Nko community as Governor Umo Eno has delivered on his promise to complete the Nto Ndang–Nko road project ahead of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) plenary scheduled for September 11–14, 2025.
The project, which forms part of the 11.71km Abiakpo Ikot Otu–Atan Ibong–Usaka Annang Road and the Nto Ndang–Nto Ekpu road with two bridges, was flagged off by the governor in February 2025 after Bishop Camillus Umoh of Ikot Ekpene Catholic Diocese drew his attention to the deplorable condition of the road.
Speaking through the Rector of the retreat center, Rev. Fr. Cyril Okoro, Bishop Umoh lauded Governor Eno for being a “promise keeper” and commended him for his unwavering support to the church, his humanitarian commitments, and his developmental strides across the state.
The cleric also extended appreciation to Senate President, Chief Godswill Akpabio, for facilitating the construction of internal roads within the center, and to Dr. Patrick Umoh, member representing Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim, and Obot Akara federal constituency, for providing solar-powered street lights.
Dr. Umoh, who joined the inspection tour of the project, described the road as a strategic trunk A route that would enhance economic activities between Abia and Akwa Ibom States. He equally praised Governor Eno and the Senate President for keeping faith with their promises to the people.
Market women, motorists, and commuters who spoke with our correspondent recounted their years of hardship on the previously impassable road. They expressed gratitude to the governor, assuring him of their continued support and prayers beyond 2027.
With the new road completed, Nko community and its environs are now set to host the CBCN plenary with renewed confidence, while residents look forward to greater economic opportunities the infrastructure will bring.
