The political landscape of Akwa Ibom State is set for a seismic shift as all is now in place for the grand reception of the state’s Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Ph.D., into the All Progressives Congress (APC). The landmark event will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, at exactly 12 noon.
According to a statement signed by Hon. Aniekan Umanah, Chairman of the Media & Publicity Sub-Committee, the ceremony will officially mark the defection of Governor Eno and his political team from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC—a development poised to reshape the state’s political alignment.
The National Chairman of the APC, His Excellency, Alhaji Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, will perform the formal rites of induction, following the official presentation of Governor Eno by the Akwa Ibom State APC Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo.
In a clear show of federal endorsement, the event will be graced by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, and leader of the APC, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. President Tinubu is expected to personally welcome Governor Eno into the party, reinforcing the narrative of strengthened federal-state synergy.
The Chief Host for the occasion is none other than the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON. A pivotal figure in the political recalibration of the state, Akpabio’s involvement underscores a broader strategic alignment between Akwa Ibom and the central government under the APC.
The high-powered event will also attract a cross-section of the political elite, including members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, the APC National Working Committee, senior party chieftains, and key national stakeholders.
