Uyo, The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has wielded the big stick against its Akwa Ibom State Chairperson, Ms. Blessing Eno Umo, suspending her indefinitely over what it described as gross misconduct and a blatant violation of the Council’s ethical code.
In a formal communication dated June 3, 2025, and jointly signed by IPAC National Chairman, Yusf M. Dantalle, and National Secretary, Maxwell Mgbudem, the Council condemned Ms. Umo’s recent public endorsement of the Akwa Ibom State Governor for a fresh term in office—a move deemed politically partisan and contrary to IPAC’s principles of neutrality.
According to the letter, Ms. Umo’s endorsement—made in her capacity as State Chairperson—has not only drawn widespread public criticism but also risked dragging the Council into political controversy. “The Inter-Party Advisory Council is composed of all registered political parties and must uphold absolute impartiality in political matters,” the national leadership stressed.
The Council accused Ms. Umo of acting unilaterally and compromising the body’s integrity and objectivity. Her conduct, IPAC said, constituted a “clear violation” of the Council’s Code of Conduct and ethical responsibilities.
Pending further investigations—particularly into whether other members colluded in the endorsement—Ms. Umo has been directed to step aside immediately. The suspension bars her from issuing public statements, attending IPAC meetings, or engaging in any representation of the Council.
IPAC has also warned of stiffer sanctions, including expulsion, should she fail to comply with the terms of the suspension or adequately justify her actions.
“This action, though regrettable, underscores our unwavering commitment to the core values of neutrality, integrity, and discipline within IPAC,” the national leadership stated, reiterating the importance of insulating the Council from political bias.
The suspension has generated ripples across political spheres in Akwa Ibom and beyond, with stakeholders awaiting Ms. Umo’s official response to the serious charges.
