In a surprising turn of political events, four governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have openly declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term ambition, igniting speculations of imminent defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reliable sources have identified the governors as Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Peter Mbah of Enugu State, and Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State. While none of them has officially announced a switch of party allegiance, insiders suggest that plans are already in motion for a formal defection ahead of the APC’s forthcoming national congresses.
This development has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly within the PDP, where internal rifts and shifting alliances have become increasingly pronounced. Analysts believe that the governors’ endorsement of Tinubu signals a strategic realignment that could alter the power dynamics in the South-South and South-East regions—areas traditionally regarded as PDP bastions.
As of press time, both the APC and PDP are yet to issue formal statements on the matter.
