UYO, Bayelsa State has emerged overall winner of the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Sports Festival, held in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, after topping the medals table with an impressive haul of 42 gold, 29 silver, and 15 bronze medals.
Delta State followed closely in second place with 41 gold, 26 silver, and 32 bronze medals, while Edo State secured third position with 23 gold, 35 silver, and 31 bronze medals.

Other states that participated in the festival included Rivers, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Imo, and Cross River, which placed in that order in the overall medal standings.

The week-long festival attracted over 3,000 athletes from across the Niger Delta region, competing in 17 sporting events. The competition also served as a platform for sports development, with more than 60 budding talents discovered for possible future national and international representation.
The Niger Delta Sports Festival aims to foster unity, promote youth development, and enhance regional integration through sports.
