The management of Akwa United Football Club has lauded the state-of-the-art Ibom Gym facility at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, describing it as a major boost to the club’s training and performance preparations.
The club’s Vice Chairman, Elder Ini Edoho, gave the commendation on Wednesday after observing the team’s training session at the facility. He described the gym as one of the finest in the state and a critical asset for athletes.
Edoho specifically commended the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Paul Bassey, for his vision and commitment in establishing the modern training centre.
He noted that the facility has already begun to positively impact the team’s training routine, eliminating the need for players to rely on privately-owned gyms at additional cost.
“Since the inauguration of this gym, this is my first visit, and I must commend the Honourable Commissioner for initiating and delivering such a valuable project. It is a significant relief for the team, as we previously had to pay for private gym sessions,” Edoho said.
He added that the availability of the gym would enhance the team’s preparation, improve fitness levels, and ultimately translate into better on-field performance.
Following the conclusion of the Nigeria National League season, Akwa United popularly known as the Promise Keepers, have intensified preparations for the 2026 President Federation Cup.
Head Coach Paul Offor has already conducted two training sessions at the Ibom Gym this week as the team ramps up efforts to compete strongly in the forthcoming national competition.
