SPORTS: Voices Behind The Mic Lock Horns On The Pitch In Honour Of NUJ Chairman, Amos Etuk

Uyo, As the tenure of Comrade Amos Etuk as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council draws to a close, members of the media community are set to honour his legacy in a unique and symbolic way, through a novelty football match.

The friendly showdown will pitch the On Air Personalities Forum (OAPFA) against the NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council in what promises to be an exciting display of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and celebration of leadership. The event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 30, 2025, at the NUJ Press Centre Field, with kickoff at 4:30 PM.

Organizers say the match goes beyond competition, serving as a heartfelt tribute to Comrade Etuk’s “outstanding leadership, professionalism, and unwavering dedication” to the development of journalism in the state.

Dignitaries expected to grace the event as Special Guests of Honour include:

Hon. Ubong Attah, Member Representing Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency

Elder Paul Bassey, Honourable Commissioner for Sports
Obong Dr. Prince Akpan Ikim, Chairman, AKS Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency

The public is invited to witness this symbolic event where journalists and broadcasters momentarily trade microphones for football boots in a spirited expression of unity and appreciation.

“It’s more than just a match, it’s a celebration of legacy, leadership, and the enduring bond within the media family,” the organizing committee said.
