Niger Delta Sports Festival Torch Arrives Akwa Ibom, Governor Eno Pledges Support

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially received the symbolic torch marking the commencement of the Niger Delta Sports Festival, set to take place in Uyo.

The torch was presented to the Governor at the Government House, Uyo, by renowned Olympic medalist, Mr. Aniefiok Udobong. Governor Eno expressed gratitude to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for selecting Akwa Ibom as the host state, emphasizing the festival’s potential to foster unity and uncover sporting talents across the region.

“I so much appreciate the integrative tendency of the sports festival as it will really help to unite and bring the whole region together for our common good,” the Governor stated.

The event was witnessed by members of the State Executive Council, underscoring the importance attached to the festival. Governor Eno further highlighted the socio-economic and developmental benefits the festival would bring to the state.

Chairman of the festival’s planning committee, Mr. Alabo Boma Iyaye, described the event as the first of its kind in Nigeria’s South-South region. He disclosed that over 4,000 athletes from Niger Delta states would compete in various sports disciplines for medals.

The Niger Delta Sports Festival aims to promote regional unity, nurture young sporting talents, and create an avenue for cultural and social exchange among participating states.
