Dr. Moshood Fayemiwo, Nigerian-born author, theologian, and U.S. citizen, has issued a heartfelt reflection on Nigeria’s 65th anniversary, emphasizing patriotism, divine purpose, and the power of the Gospel. Though now an American citizen, Dr. Fayemiwo declared that his roots remain deeply tied to his homeland.
“We have no other nation but this land of our birth,” he stated. “Even though I am a U.S. citizen, this is the land of my birth.”
Using a powerful metaphor, Dr. Fayemiwo compared life’s journey to rooms, doors, and windows, symbols of divine transitions and spiritual assignments. He acknowledged Nigeria as the room that prepared him to walk through the American door, a door he believes was opened by God to fulfill a larger mission.
“Before America opened the door for me, Nigeria gave me the room to reach for the door that America opened,” he explained. “Doors are entry points to several rooms, but one can only occupy a room at a time.”
Reflecting on 30 years since leaving Nigeria and looking out of what he calls “the Nigerian window of 65 years,” Dr. Fayemiwo believes that new spiritual windows are opening for the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. Citing 1 Corinthians 16:9, he said: “A great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.”
He emphasized that it is God, the “Great Builder of all rooms, doors and windows”, who has orchestrated his journey across nations for a divine purpose.
Dr. Fayemiwo’s message comes at a critical time for Nigeria, encouraging citizens not to lose hope but to recognize the divine potential and destiny of the nation. He concluded with a call to spiritual vigilance and national unity, urging Nigerians to embrace their God-given purpose in this new season.
