In a bold move to tackle unemployment and strengthen the state’s human resource capacity, the Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to recruit 3,000 new workers across key public service sectors.
According to Elder Effiong Essien, the State Head of Civil Service, 1,000 qualified applicants will be absorbed into the state’s core civil service, another 1,000 into the medical sector, and an additional 1,000 into the teaching service—covering both primary and secondary education.
Elder Essien made the disclosure on Monday during the flag-off of the 2025 Public Service Week in Uyo, applauding Governor Umo Eno for granting approval for the large-scale recruitment. He noted that the move will not only ease unemployment pressures but also serve as a stimulus for the local economy.
As part of activities marking the Public Service Week, a public lecture themed “Leveraging Technology for a Smart and Agile Public Service” will be delivered by the Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, at the Civil Service Auditorium in Uyo.
Also on the line-up is a novelty football match between civil servants and local government staff, to be held at the Civil Service Field, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat.
