Uyo, The Abia State University (ABSU) Alumni Association, Akwa Ibom State Branch, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening alumni engagement, supporting its alma mater, and contributing to the development of Akwa Ibom State. This was emphasized by the Chairman of the association, Elder Effiong B. Etukudoh, MNIM, CNA, during the New Year Get-Together held at EEMJM Hotels & Suites, Uyo.
In his address, Elder Etukudoh welcomed members and guests with gratitude, describing the event as a time for reflection and renewed dedication. He highlighted the importance of alumni networks in fostering lifelong bonds and uplifting both the university and society.
As the association steps into 2025, Elder Etukudoh expressed optimism about the future, noting that the alumni network is growing stronger and poised to make an even greater impact. Among the key initiatives for the year is the hosting of an Alumni Summit, where outstanding members will be honored for their contributions. The event will also feature academic discussions on contemporary issues, furthering intellectual exchange within the association.
Additionally, the association plans to focus on three core goals:
1. Supporting Abia State University through various initiatives.
2. Enhancing the welfare and well-being of members.
3. Contributing to community development through impactful service projects.
Acknowledging challenges such as financial constraints and the rapidly evolving global landscape, Elder Etukudoh urged alumni to actively contribute through financial support, mentorship, and skills-sharing. He emphasized the need for continuous learning and professional development, encouraging members to pursue higher education and professional certifications.
He also reiterated the words of a respected member, Pastor Mrs. Florence Emah, who advised that “our alumni association should serve as a platform where the more affluent members can provide support and upliftment to those in need.”
In recognition of Akwa Ibom State’s ARISE Agenda spearheaded by Governor Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D, the ABSU Alumni Association pledged its full support. Elder Etukudoh described the initiative as a visionary blueprint for rural development, economic growth, and job creation. He noted that alumni associations could play a pivotal role in ensuring its success by leveraging their collective expertise and networks.
As part of its commitment to recognizing excellence, the association has decided to honor distinguished members for their outstanding contributions. This decision, made at the Executive Committee meeting on January 18, 2025, aims to inspire others to contribute actively to the association’s growth.
The event also featured an intellectual lecture on The Role of Alumni Associations in the Development of Akwa Ibom State, delivered by Elder Anietie Atai, Ph.D.
In conclusion, Elder Etukudoh expressed gratitude to dedicated alumni members who have consistently supported the association. He urged all members to remain engaged and actively participate in upcoming events, workshops, and networking initiatives.
“Together, let us embrace the New Year with hope, determination, and a shared vision. Let us build a legacy that future alumni will be proud of,” he said.
