Uyo, Feb. 1, 2025 – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has commenced the enforcement of third-party vehicle insurance compliance, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, personally supervising the exercise across the state.
The operation, in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, aims to ensure that all vehicle owners adhere to the mandatory insurance requirement. CP Azare, accompanied by his team and members of the press, monitored key roads in Uyo metropolis and other locations to assess compliance. Several vehicles found without valid third-party insurance were impounded, and their owners were issued strict warnings against using fraudulent documents.
Speaking during the exercise, CP Azare emphasized the importance of valid insurance coverage for all vehicle owners, noting that non-compliance would lead to vehicle impoundment. He stressed that the initiative is designed to enhance road safety, protect the public, and maintain law and order on the roads.
“The enforcement is not a punitive measure but a necessary step to ensure that motorists operate legally and responsibly. This will contribute to public safety and reduce risks on our roads,” CP Azare stated.
He assured residents of Akwa Ibom that the enforcement process would be fair and transparent, urging vehicle owners, transport unions, and other stakeholders to support the initiative.
The exercise is set to continue across all 31 Local Government Areas of the state, with the police command committed to full compliance to safeguard the well-being of the public.
