Asaba, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has called on the Federal Government to revisit its macro-economic policies, citing their adverse effects on Nigerians. This resolution was part of a communiqué issued at the end of the Forum’s first meeting of 2025, held at the Government House, Asaba, Delta State, on Friday, January 31.
Chaired by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the meeting reviewed the performance of PDP-led states and the overall state of the nation, acknowledging the significant socio-economic and security challenges that characterized 2024. The Forum commended its member states for implementing policies aimed at alleviating hardship and laying the groundwork for sustainable development.
The governors noted that the Federal Government’s macro-economic policies have exacerbated economic hardships for Nigerians. They urged the government to either revisit or restructure these policies to ease the suffering of citizens, emphasizing that meaningful progress at the state level is hindered by these national economic challenges.
Addressing internal party matters, the Forum welcomed ongoing efforts to resolve the leadership dispute regarding the position of PDP National Secretary. It reaffirmed support for the recent Court of Appeal judgment and advised the National Working Committee (NWC) to implement the ruling effectively. Additionally, the Forum recommended that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting be rescheduled for March 13, 2025, ensuring all necessary legal notices are in place.
The governors commended the Armed Forces and security agencies for their dedication to securing the country. However, they expressed deep concern over the resurgence of non-state actors posing security threats. The Forum called for a reinforced national security strategy to combat this growing challenge.
The Forum expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the people of Delta State for hosting the meeting successfully. It commended the state government’s strides in infrastructure, environmental restoration, and people-focused initiatives.
Concluding the communiqué, the PDP governors urged Nigerians not to lose hope despite the prevailing economic difficulties. They assured that the party remains committed to restoring the country to the pre-2015 era of economic stability, security, and national unity.
The meeting reaffirmed the PDP’s resolve to provide a viable alternative to the current administration and champion policies that improve the lives of Nigerians.
