In just 100 days in office, Hon. Uko Friday Umoh, Executive Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area, has delivered remarkable achievements that have significantly impacted the lives of the people. While many leaders struggle to leave a tangible mark in their first three months, Hon. Umoh’s proactive leadership has redefined governance in Etinan.
Vision for Etinan: A Home for All
Hon. Umoh’s primary vision is to transform Etinan into a desirable home for both indigenes and investors. His administration has prioritized providing basic amenities, with a focus on restoring electricity to communities where transformers have broken down or been vandalized. Recognizing the role of electricity in economic growth, Hon. Umoh set up a technical committee, chaired by Rt. Hon. Samuel Ikon, to assess and restore power infrastructure.
In the first 100 days, the council procured seven new transformers for affected communities, a bold step toward achieving full electricity restoration in Etinan.
Infrastructure Development
Hon. Umoh has embarked on the construction of an ultra-modern motor park to address the absence of a functional facility in Etinan. Currently 65% complete, the park promises to enhance safety, create jobs, and boost revenue for the council.
The Chairman has also initiated the remodeling of the Etinan roundabout, aiming to beautify the area and make it more appealing to visitors and residents alike.
Additionally, Hon. Umoh addressed long-standing issues at the legislative chambers by constructing toilet facilities for councilors. At the Millennium Hall, he replaced non-functional fans, improving the facility for public use.
Rural Development
Recognizing the importance of accessible roads, the council has commenced grading five kilometers of rural roads in each of Etinan’s 12 political wards. This initiative aims to improve connectivity and stimulate economic activities across the local government area.
Community Welfare and Empowerment
Hon. Umoh’s administration extended goodwill during the yuletide season, providing rice and condiments to National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) members and distributing gifts to widows and the political class. Retired Nigerian Army personnel and their families also benefited, with Hon. Umoh donating ₦1 million to the Nigerian Legion and his wife presenting wrappers to members of the Retired Army Wives Association.
Tax Holiday and Revenue Generation
In December 2024, the council declared a tax holiday for business owners, commercial transporters, and market women to ease their financial burden. Meanwhile, revenue committees were reconstituted to enhance the council’s revenue base for 2025.
Recognitions and Awards
Hon. Umoh’s achievements have earned widespread recognition. The Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC) honored him as the Best Performing Chairman of 2024. He was also inducted as a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Leadership & Mentorship and received a Congratulatory Award from the Centre of Excellence in Professional Development.
