Eket, The Chairman of the Joint Labour Industrial Committee for Eket, Esit-Eket, Ibeno, and Onna, Mr. Etukudo Ndueso, convened a crucial meeting yesterday with point heads from the four catchment areas to address labour recruitment challenges and strengthen community development relations with oil multinationals and service companies operating in the region.
The meeting, held at the Joint Labour Industrial Committee office within the Eket Local Government Council, focused on streamlining efforts to secure employment and contract quotas for host communities while promoting peaceful coexistence.
Addressing the leaders, Mr. Ndueso highlighted the persistent issues of unemployment and youth restiveness plaguing the oil-producing communities. He emphasized the need for leaders to remain focused, act with integrity, and foster unity in their operations.
“The challenges of unemployment and youth restiveness are critical issues that require our collective effort. As leaders, we must demonstrate good conduct and work towards ensuring that our people benefit from the opportunities created by the oil industry,” Mr. Ndueso stated.
He also reassured the community of his committee’s commitment to creating more employment opportunities and tackling the socio-economic challenges facing the region.
The meeting provided a platform for open discussions on strategies to strengthen community relations with oil companies and improve the standard of living in host communities.
