Uyo, Governor Umo Eno has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare while applauding the unwavering dedication of civil servants in the state during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration in Uyo.
Addressing a large gathering of labour leaders, government officials, and civil servants, Governor Eno described workers as “the engine of growth” and “the glue that binds and accelerates our vision.” He stressed that while governments may craft policy agendas, it is the public workforce that drives and sustains execution.
“Today, we celebrate your tireless efforts, your loyalty, and your essential role in the success of our Arise Agenda. On behalf of the government and the people of Akwa Ibom State, I say thank you,” he declared.
The governor acknowledged the productive partnership with Organized Labour, stating that promises made during the 2023 campaigns have translated into impactful actions. “We pledged to prioritize workers’ welfare and deepen our collaboration—and I believe we’ve kept our word,” he said.
Reflecting on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Reclaiming the Civic Space in the Midst of Economic Hardship,” Governor Eno remarked that Akwa Ibom has made significant strides in improving the work environment despite nationwide economic challenges.
“In our state, due to the cordial relationship with labour and our intentional policy focus, the civic space remains open and constructive,” he said, expressing optimism that current hardships would soon give way to better days.
Highlighting specific interventions, the governor listed key achievements since assuming office:
Payment of over N60 billion out of a N98 billion backlog of gratuities dating back to 2012.
Increase in minimum wage to N80,000—one of the highest in the country.
Continued implementation of the 13th-month salary, fondly known as Eno-mber.
Allocation of 150 two-bedroom flats to civil servants (GL 1–8) via raffle draw.
Approval of 2024 promotions and N2.5 billion for the 7.5% Contributory Pension Scheme.
One billion Naira bonus for Public Service Week and wardrobe allowances for teachers.
Recruitment approvals for 100 Occupational Safety Officers and 600 medical personnel.
Appointment of over 20 Permanent Secretaries, each provided with new SUVs.
Enrolment of over 10,000 junior staff into the Arise Care Medical Insurance Scheme.
N1 million rewards for top-performing staff.
