The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has launched the NPFVigilant App, a technology-driven platform designed to make it easier for Nigerians to report fraud, submit evidence and monitor the progress of their cases without necessarily visiting a police station to write statements.
The new digital platform is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to modernise policing, strengthen citizen engagement and improve the response to financial and cyber-related crimes.
Through the NPFVigilant App, members of the public can report suspected fraud and related offences digitally, upload supporting evidence and track the status of their complaints from the point of reporting through subsequent investigative and recovery processes.
The platform is also designed to provide greater visibility into efforts to recover stolen funds, potentially reducing the delays and logistical challenges associated with traditional complaint procedures.
Launching the initiative, IGP Disu underscored the importance of technology in contemporary policing, particularly as criminals increasingly exploit digital platforms to perpetrate fraud and other financial crimes.
The initiative represents a shift towards a more accessible and technology-enabled policing system, where citizens can interact with the police remotely while providing investigators with relevant information and evidence needed to commence investigations.
The Nigeria Police Force said the app is intended to strengthen accountability, improve the efficiency of fraud investigations and enhance public confidence in the Force’s ability to respond to emerging forms of crime.
With the introduction of NPFVigilant, Nigerians reporting fraud may no longer have to begin the process by physically going to a police station to write a statement, as the digital platform provides an alternative channel for lodging complaints and submitting evidence.
The development is expected to further advance the Nigeria Police Force’s broader technology-driven policing reforms and its efforts to build a more responsive, accessible and citizen-focused law-enforcement system.
