Christians have been urged to return to a life of holiness, contentment and unwavering devotion to God as a three-day revival meeting continues at the church.
The revival, which commenced on Monday, June 22, is themed “Godliness with Contentment” and is aimed at rekindling believers’ first love for God, restoring spiritual fervour, and inspiring members to win souls for Christ through evangelism and discipleship.
Speaking during the opening session, Pastor Obong Akpaekong explained that the theme was drawn from Apostle Paul’s admonition to Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:6, which states that “godliness with contentment is great gain.” He noted that genuine worship must be rooted in holiness, obedience and sincerity rather than the pursuit of worldly riches.
According to him, believers are called to worship God in spirit and in truth as commanded in John 4:24, stressing that a righteous and devoted life attracts God’s blessings and favour.
“God desires sincere worship from His people. Those who serve Him faithfully and joyfully will continually experience His goodness because He daily loads His children with benefits,” he said.
Pastor Akpaekong encouraged church members to actively participate in worship services, prayer meetings, Bible studies, choir activities, evangelism and follow-up ministries, noting that such commitments strengthen spiritual growth and bring lasting joy and fulfilment.
He further preached on the topic, “Don’t Quit the Place of Revival,” warning believers against abandoning their spiritual heritage and fellowship with God.
Drawing lessons from the story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15, he observed that the young man lost his spiritual vitality and suffered hardship after leaving his father’s house. However, restoration came when he repented and returned home.
“The father’s house represents God’s presence. Whenever people drift away from God, they expose themselves to spiritual dryness, suffering and lack. Like the Prodigal Son, every backslider should return to God and experience restoration,” he stated.
The cleric also cited the account of Elimelech and his family in Ruth Chapter 1, explaining that their decision to leave Bethlehem-Judah for Moab resulted in tragedy and loss. Elimelech and his two sons died in a foreign land, leaving Naomi in distress.
He said Naomi’s decision to return to Bethlehem-Judah brought renewed hope, peace and divine favour, emphasizing that true contentment can only be found in fellowship with God.
“Many people have wandered away from God’s presence in pursuit of worldly pleasures. The message of revival is a call to return home and rediscover the peace, joy and contentment that comes from serving God,” he added.
Also speaking during the revival, Brother Abel Udotong of the church’s Tenant Road Branch highlighted several biblical examples of God’s faithfulness to those who trust Him.
He referenced God’s deliverance of Daniel from the lions’ den in Daniel 6, the promotion of Mordecai in Esther 6, and the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea by the children of Israel in Exodus 14.
According to him, these scriptural accounts demonstrate God’s unwavering commitment to defending, promoting and preserving His people.
“God is always on standby to make those who trust Him happy. He never abandons those who remain faithful to Him,” Udotong declared.
The revival continues with prayers, worship sessions, biblical teachings and soul-winning activities aimed at deepening the faith of believers and restoring many to a closer walk with God.
The central message of the revival remains clear: godliness, coupled with contentment, remains one of the greatest treasures a believer can possess, bringing both spiritual fulfilment and divine blessings.
