The United States Secret Service has launched an investigation into a shooting incident reported near the venue of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, raising fresh concerns over security at one of Washington’s most high-profile gatherings.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred in close proximity to the event location, where journalists, political figures, and top government officials had assembled. Authorities confirmed that one suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
Despite the scare, officials reassured the public that all protected individuals, including senior government figures under Secret Service protection, were unharmed. The swift response by security operatives is being credited with preventing further escalation.
The Secret Service, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, has since cordoned off the area and commenced a detailed investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and whether it was targeted or random.
Security at the Correspondents’ Dinner, often attended by the U.S. President and other high-ranking officials, is traditionally airtight. However, the incident is expected to trigger a comprehensive review of existing safety protocols.
