The Senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, Ekong Sampson, has commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, for initiating the construction of the Ibekwe Akpanya–Ikot Unya–Ikot Eda–Iffe Town–Ekpuk Road, describing the project as a major boost to rural development and economic expansion.
Senator Sampson gave the commendation during an inspection visit to the project site in Mkpat Enin, where construction activities have commenced following the official flag-off by the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
He described the road project as a long-awaited intervention that would significantly improve connectivity across communities such as Ikpa Ikono, Ibiaku, and Mkpat Enin, while opening up new opportunities for trade, education, and social development.
According to the lawmaker, the project reflects the governor’s deliberate commitment to bridging infrastructural gaps in rural areas and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
“This project is a gift to our people who have, for years, yearned for this level of development. With increasing population, expanding schools, and thriving markets, this road will address critical mobility challenges and stimulate economic activities across the benefiting communities,” Sampson stated.
He further lauded the choice of CCECC as contractor, noting the firm’s reputation for quality delivery and timely execution of projects. He urged the company to sustain its standards while calling on host communities to cooperate fully to ensure smooth and timely completion.
“I came to assess the progress firsthand, and I am impressed with the level of work done so far. This gives confidence that the project will meet expected standards,” he added.
The inspection tour was attended by key members of the Senator’s political team, including his Campaign Spokesperson, Hon. Nkeruwem James; Prof. Peter Esuh; Rt. Hon. Barr. Ini Ikot; Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh; and the Director-General of his campaign, Sir Michael Essang.
Also speaking, the Village Head of Ibekwe Akpanya, Eteidung Boniface Ekanem, applauded the collaboration between Senator Sampson and Governor Eno, noting that their working relationship continues to attract meaningful development to Mkpat Enin and neighbouring communities.
He expressed optimism that the ongoing road construction would not only ease transportation challenges but also improve livelihoods and accelerate socio-economic growth in the area.
