The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Amasenibo Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, has appealed to the Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) to partner with the council in executing critical road infrastructure projects estimated to cost over ₦1 billion by directly funding the schemes through the council’s 2027 statutory tenement rate/revenue.
Pepple made the appeal while receiving the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NLNG, Engr. Adeleye Falade, during a courtesy visit to his country residence in Bonny.
He said the proposed projects include the construction of the Semidia Road linking Water Well 5 and Akiama Road, as well as an extensive drainage and canal system aimed at tackling persistent flooding in the area.
The council chairman said his administration was prepared to forgo the 2027 statutory tenement rate/revenue payable by NLNG to facilitate the projects, stressing that the initiative was driven by the need to improve the welfare of residents.
He noted that the administration had already invested in education, security, youth empowerment, infrastructure and support for small and medium-scale enterprises, adding that the proposed contractor, Evomec Global Services, was ready to mobilise to the site once funding was secured.
Pepple also commended NLNG for its contributions to the establishment of the Bonny Fire Station and appealed for additional support in providing fire hydrants, firefighting equipment, safety kits and other operational tools to strengthen emergency response in the local government.
Responding, NLNG Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Adeleye Falade, commended the council chairman for his developmental vision and pledged that the company would carefully consider the requests.
Falade described Bonny as a peaceful and welcoming community, assuring that NLNG remained committed to contributing to the kingdom’s development. He said the company would review the proposals on the road projects and the Bonny Fire Station and explore appropriate avenues to support the local government’s efforts.
Senior officials of the Bonny Local Government, including the Vice Chairman, Hon. Ibinyefagha Alabere Renner, Leader of the Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Tammy Jumbo, Secretary of the Local Government, Warisenibo Tamunotonye Adolphus Jumbo, Chief of Staff, Elder Promise Bristol, and APC 2027 Bonny State Assembly candidate, Soparagha S. Jumbo, attended the meeting.
