Governor Umo Eno has intensified efforts to bolster security in Akwa Ibom State, holding high-level talks with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s successor, Olatunji Disu, in Abuja.
The meeting, which took place at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, underscored the state government’s determination to deepen collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in tackling security challenges.
Governor Eno, who congratulated the IGP on his appointment by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commended the police for their sustained efforts in safeguarding lives and property nationwide. He stressed that his visit was strategically aimed at reinforcing operational synergy between the state and federal security architecture.
The Governor maintained that effective security management requires sustained partnership, intelligence sharing, and institutional support, assuring the police leadership of his administration’s readiness to provide the necessary backing to enhance peace and stability in Akwa Ibom.
“This engagement reflects our commitment to proactive security governance and the protection of our people,” the Governor noted, adding that peace remains the foundation for sustainable development.
In his response, IGP Disu welcomed the Governor’s initiative, describing the visit as timely and significant in strengthening inter-governmental cooperation. He acknowledged Akwa Ibom State’s support for policing efforts and commended the Governor’s developmental strides.
The police chief reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to sustaining a productive relationship with the state government, emphasizing that collaboration remains central to effective policing in Nigeria.
The Governor was accompanied by top government functionaries, including the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, and key commissioners, while senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force were also in attendance.
