UYO, The people of Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency have declared their support for Governor Umo Eno’s strategic defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as timely and politically expedient.
This was made known by the Member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Barrister Ime Okon, while addressing journalists at Government House, Uyo, shortly after the Governor formally announced his switch to the APC on Friday.
Hon. Okon revealed that extensive consultations with grassroots constituents revealed a consensus that Governor Eno’s transition aligns with current political realities in Nigeria and offers a more stable and forward-looking platform.
He recalled that the constituency had earlier reaffirmed its endorsement of Governor Eno’s leadership during a Town Square meeting and empowerment programme held in May. With the Governor’s realignment to the APC, Okon noted, that endorsement now bears stronger conviction.
“In a matter of days,” the lawmaker said, “we will witness a wave of political realignments in Itu and Ibiono Ibom as leaders and followers rally behind the Governor’s new direction.”
Appreciating Governor Eno’s infrastructural footprint across the constituency, Okon expressed confidence that the Governor would remain committed to the Needs Document presented by stakeholders during the Town Square engagement.
He further projected that the realignment with the APC would open up federal opportunities, particularly in areas of ecological restoration, the ongoing reconstruction of the Calabar–Itu Highway, revival of the Nigerian Newsprint Manufacturing Company in Oku Iboku, and enhanced support for the Federal College of Education, Ididep.
According to Okon, “This move positions our people for greater visibility at the federal level and a firmer stake in national development.”
