All arrangements have been finalised for the immortalisation of Late Madam Lucy Ben Akpan, as her family prepares to hold a remembrance service and tombstone unveiling in her honour on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Nduo Eduo in Okon, Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking to journalists at his palace, renowned retired Professor of Geology and community leader, Professor Etie Ben Akpan, disclosed that the memorial service will take place at the Apostolic Church Nigeria, Nduo Eduo District, Ikot Ekpene Udo Area, by 10:00 a.m.
According to him, the church service will be immediately followed by the unveiling of the tombstone at his country home, marking a significant moment in the family’s effort to preserve the legacy of their matriarch.
Professor Akpan, who holds the traditional title of Ataifiok Okon, extended an open invitation to friends, associates, and well-wishers to join the family in honouring the memory of the late heroine.
Late Madam Lucy Ben Akpan, fondly known as Eka Etie (née Akpadiaha Edoho), was born in February 1902 and passed on in March 1978 at the age of 76. During her lifetime, she was widely respected as a strong pillar of the family of the late Chief Ben Akpan Udonsek and earned the revered title “Mma Ekid” within the Nduo Eduo community.
Celebrated for her strength, influence, and dedication to family and community values, the matriarch hailed from the lineage of Obongisong Akpadiaha Edoho Akan-Imoh of the Nung Edoho dynasty in Atai Ndon, Afaha Eket. Her maternal roots are also traced to the prominent Atung Esu family of Afaha Eket.
Family sources describe the forthcoming event not merely as a remembrance, but as a deliberate effort to immortalise a woman whose life left an enduring imprint on her community and generations that followed.
