A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Charles Ebongho, has formally declared his intention to contest the Eket State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
Ebongho made the declaration on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, in Eket Local Government Area, marking what political observers describe as a significant development in the area’s evolving political landscape.
Speaking during the declaration, Ebongho said his ambition was driven by a vision to deliver effective representation and tangible democratic dividends to the people of the constituency.
“I declare my intention today to serve the people as a member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly representing Eket State Constituency. Vision is like an embryo which has to be nurtured and developed into life. My vision is to engage in legislations that will enhance vibrant democratic dividends for my constituency and the state in general,” he stated.
A founding member of the APC in Akwa Ibom State, Ebongho hails from the Okon geopolitical zone of Eket LGA. His entry into the race is already generating momentum, with supporters citing his longstanding involvement in party politics and grassroots engagement as key strengths.
Addressing journalists, the business executive commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ongoing economic reforms and praised Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, for what he described as efforts to strengthen the state’s economy through the ARISE Agenda. He also lauded Senate President Godswill Akpabio, urging constituents in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District to support his re-election bid.
Political analysts note that Ebongho commands considerable support across communities, having built a solid political base over the years. Although he previously contested for the same seat without success, his supporters believe the experience has reinforced his political structure and resolve.
Ebongho is expected to face the incumbent lawmaker, Nsidibe Akata, who also hails from the Okon geopolitical zone. The anticipated contest is likely to shape the dynamics of the APC primaries and influence the broader electoral process in the constituency.
Stakeholders have described Ebongho’s declaration as a positive development for democratic engagement, noting that increased participation strengthens internal party democracy and broadens voter choice.
