The League of Veteran Journalists in Akwa Ibom State has commiserated with its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Akanimo Sampson, over the death of his wife, Dorathy, who passed away last weekend.
The League conveyed its condolences during a sympathy visit to the Sampson family, led by the State Chairman, Mr. Sunday Antai. He urged the bereaved journalist to draw strength from the exemplary life and enduring legacy of his late wife.
Mr. Antai described the period as deeply trying for the family but encouraged Mr. Sampson—fondly called “The Chief Priest” by his colleagues—to remain steadfast and take solace in the belief that his wife lived a noble and fulfilled life.
“Though this is a painful moment, be consoled by the fact that your wife lived well and fulfilled her mission on earth,” Antai said, while also encouraging him to remain strong for his children and extended family. He further offered prayers for God’s comfort and protection, asking that the family be spared further loss.
The visit featured a solemn prayer session led by Lady Christy Obot, a former Commissioner for Information in Akwa Ibom State, who committed the bereaved family to God’s care and asked for divine strength and consolation.
In his response, a visibly emotional Mr. Sampson expressed gratitude to the League for the show of solidarity, describing the visit as a source of encouragement during a difficult time.
“My family and I have accepted the passing of my dear wife, Dorathy, as the will of God,” he said, thanking his colleagues for standing with him in grief.
Other members of the League present during the condolence visit included Mr. Sunday Koffi, Assistant Secretary; Mr. Sam Akpan, Executive Management Consultant with Comfort 95.1 FM; and Mr. Udo Johnson.
