Apostolic Church Honours Sports Commissioner Paul Bassey with Excellence Award

The Apostolic Church, Atabong Assembly, Eket, Akwa Ibom State, has honoured the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, with an Excellence Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the church.

The award was presented during the 23rd anniversary celebration of the Atabong Assembly, where church leaders and members commended Elder Bassey for his years of service, commitment, and support to the ministry. Bassey, a longstanding elder of the church, was described as a devoted member whose impact has remained consistent over the years.

In his acceptance speech, the Sports Commissioner dedicated the award to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, whom he praised for his inclusive leadership style and for appointing two indigenes of Eket into his administration. According to Bassey, Governor Eno has continued to demonstrate detribalised leadership anchored on merit and unity.

Reflecting on his early years in the church, Elder Bassey recalled that he was an active member of the church choir at a young age, affirming his lifelong bond with the Apostolic Church.
“When I was 20 years old, I used to sing in the choir at this same church,” he said, adding that nothing could separate him from the Apostolic Church.

He expressed gratitude to the church leadership for instituting a programme that recognises individuals who have made meaningful contributions to the church’s progress, noting that such gestures encourage sustained commitment and service.

Meanwhile, the Sports Commissioner also attended a reception, send-forth and thanksgiving service in honour of Pastor and Deaconess Edward Thompson at The Apostolic Church, Ikot Okudom District, Okon Eket, in Eket Local Government Area. During the visit, Elder Bassey made a donation in support of the church’s ongoing building project, reaffirming his support for church development initiatives across the area.
