Ward meetings of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been successfully held across Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State today January 30, 2026 in compliance with a directive of the party’s state leadership mandating ward-level engagements as part of ongoing party activities.
At the country home of the Dean of Commissioners, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong, addressed ward leaders, councillors and personal assistants to the governor, other stakeholders, charging them to take the exercise seriously and work diligently towards consolidating the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. He urged party faithful to remain focused on returning the APC leadership at the state and national levels, including Governor Umo Bassey Eno, the Senate President and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Archibong cautioned Eket residents against resorting to insults or name-calling directed at the governor, advising instead that grievances should be expressed maturely and constructively.
According to him, responsible engagement, rather than abusive rhetoric, would better advance the interests of the Eket people.
The ward meetings form part of a statewide engagement of party structures and a grassroots membership drive aimed at strengthening the APC’s presence, cohesion and participation at the ward level.
Party members and intending members were encouraged to attend promptly and actively participate, in line with the directive of the APC Leader in Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, and the State Working Committee of the party.
In Eket Ward 2, Urban, the APC Ward leader, Elder Paul Bassey, urged ward councillors other stakeholders to intensify efforts to recruit more members into the party in support of Governor Umo Eno. He cited the establishment of a sports academy, as evidence of the governor’s commitment to the Eket local government Area.
Elder Bassey expressed satisfaction with the large turnout recorded during the electronic membership registration and revalidation exercise, noting that party members and stakeholders in Ward 2, Urban, had pledged to step up mobilisation to attract more registered members.
The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports and Ward Leader of APC Ward 2, Urban, Elder Paul Bassey, welcomed members and thanked them for their consistent participation in party activities. He stressed the importance of proper registration, noting that party members without valid registration and voter cards would be unable to participate effectively in elections.
He announced that the electronic membership registration exercise, initially scheduled to end on January 31, 2026, had been extended to February 8, 2026, following appeals from party stakeholders.
The extension, he explained, is to enable more supporters and members to register and validate their membership ahead of future political engagements.
Goodwill messages were received from prominent stakeholders who commended the effort of the governor, Pastor Umo Eno, the commissioner for sports, Elder Paul Bassey in uniting the state, party, and ensuring governance reaches the people at the grassroots.
