The Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State, has matriculated about 1,331 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session, while unveiling a bold incentive that guarantees automatic employment for graduates who attain First Class honours.
The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Leo Daniel, during the 3rd Matriculation Ceremony of the university, held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Sports Arena of the Takeoff Campus in Ikot Abasi.
Addressing the newly admitted students, Professor Daniel charged them to embrace academic discipline, innovation and excellence, stressing that FUTIA was established to drive technological advancement and produce solution-oriented graduates capable of competing globally.
In a strong endorsement of legislative support for tertiary education, the Vice-Chancellor singled out Senator Ekong Sampson, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals and Senator representing Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District, for his unwavering commitment to the growth of the institution.
Professor Daniel described Senator Sampson as the only public office holder from Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency and the wider senatorial district, aside from former Senator Udoma Udoudoma who has demonstrated tangible dedication to building a technology-driven university.
He noted that Senator Sampson not only sponsored the bill that led to the establishment of FUTIA but has also made substantial contributions to the university’s infrastructural development, in addition to awarding education grants to students of the institution from Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the commendation was based on verifiable facts and visible projects on ground, which continue to strengthen the university’s academic and physical foundation.
The ceremony marked another milestone in FUTIA’s steady growth trajectory, reinforcing its resolve to reward merit, attract top talent and position itself as a centre of excellence in science and technology education in Nigeria.
