In furtherance of the ARISE Agenda and his commitment to redefining transportation in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Umo Eno, PhD, has approved and fully funded the capacity-building training for the second batch of youths in ferry boat operation and maintenance.
The trainees departed for Lagos on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, to commence specialized training at Hydro Marine & Boat Services, Apapa. The programme is designed to equip participants with the technical skills required for the operation and maintenance of modern passenger ferry systems.
Prior to their departure, the trainees visited the Ministry of Transport for a briefing session with the Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Anthony Luke Udoh, alongside key management staff of the ministry. During the session, the trainees were formally presented with their Agreement Bond Certificates, underscoring the State Government’s commitment to structured and sustainable capacity development.
The training will focus on the operation and maintenance of a 73-seater passenger ferry boat currently under construction by Hydro Marine & Boat Services in Lagos. Upon successful completion of the programme, the trainees will be awarded Marine Engineering/Officers Certificates, qualifying them for deployment in marine services across Akwa Ibom State.
The initiative is part of the State Government’s broader strategy to enhance water transportation, promote youth empowerment, and ensure efficient and safe marine operations within the State.
Governor Umo Eno’s investment in human capital development continues to position Akwa Ibom State as a hub for modern and sustainable transportation, in line with the objectives of the ARISE Agenda.
