Senate Solid Minerals Committee Commiserates with Plateau Governor Over Killings

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, Senator Ekong Sampson, on Tuesday led members of the Committee on a condolence visit to the Plateau State Governor, His Excellency Caleb Muftwang, over the recent killings in the state.

Speaking during the visit at the Government House, Jos, Senator Sampson, who represents Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, expressed deep concern over the spate of violence and assured the people of Plateau State of the Senate’s solidarity during this trying time.

“Our visit is not just official but also deeply humanitarian. We share in your grief and we stand with you and the people of Plateau State,” Senator Sampson stated.

Prior to the visit, the Committee had an engagement with traditional rulers including the Gbom Gwom Jos, Dr. Da Jacob Gyang Buba, as well as emirs, chiefs, and stakeholders in the mining sector. They also undertook an inspection of various mining sites and the proposed site of the University of Mining and Geosciences in Dong.

The visit underscores the Senate’s commitment to both peace and sustainable development in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.
