The Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Monday convened a high-level stakeholders’ security meeting in Uyo to review the state’s security landscape and reinforce partnerships aimed at sustaining peace across communities.
The meeting, held at the Command Headquarters and chaired by the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, brought together traditional rulers, religious leaders, labour unions, transport and market associations, student representatives, community leaders and the media.
CP Azare reaffirmed that Akwa Ibom remains peaceful and secure, stressing that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, continues to maintain intensive patrols, strategic surveillance and intelligence-led operations across the state.
He expressed concern over the circulation of fake news and unverified security alerts on social media, describing such messages as false and capable of creating unnecessary panic. He urged residents to disregard unverified information and rely only on credible updates from authorized security sources.
The Commissioner also called on communities to take greater ownership of their security by exposing criminal elements involved in armed robbery, cultism, vandalism, drug peddling and other illegal activities. He warned that no community can be fully secure if residents shield criminals.
CP Azare further appealed to traditional and religious leaders, youth bodies, market unions and civil society organizations to remain committed to collaborating with the Police to preserve the peaceful environment the state currently enjoys.
Stakeholders, including CAN Chairman Bishop Chris Nyong, traditional ruler Edidem Sylvanus Okon, CHRAN Chairman Otuekong Franklyn Isong and NLC Chairman Comrade Sunny James, commended the Command for its proactive efforts in maintaining law and order. They offered various interventions and pledged stronger collaboration, improved information sharing and continued support for security initiatives across the state.
The Police Command assured residents of its sustained commitment to protecting lives and property and urged the public to remain vigilant. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or any security agency.
