Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, attended Akwa United FC’s evening training session at the Eket Stadium, where he reminded the players of the Governor’s directive to secure promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The Commissioner, who was accompanied by the club’s chairman, Mr Joseph Eno, along with members of the management, technical crew, and backroom staff, addressed the team after the training session.
In his remarks, Elder Bassey expressed delight at the quality, energy, and intensity displayed by the players during training.

“I am impressed with the quality displayed in training today,” he said. “The energy, intensity, and commitment are good. I urge you to keep the focus and never forget the Governor’s directive that this club must return to the NPFL. This instruction has been handed down to the chairman, and I want you to give your best to achieve this target.”
The Commissioner further reminded the players of Akwa United’s proud history, emphasising that the team should not see itself as a second division side.
“Remember, Akwa United is not a second division club. You must carry yourselves with that in mind and push for promotion,” he added.
A highlight of the evening was the celebration of defender Noah’s birthday, where the Commissioner joined the players and officials to offer prayers, sing birthday songs, and cut a cake in his honour.
Akwa United are currently holding a closed training camp in Eket as part of their preparations for the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, which kicks off in November.
