FG Plans Grid Connection To Revive ALSCON Operations

The Federal Government has unveiled plans to connect the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON), located in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom State, to the national electricity grid in a renewed effort to revive the long-dormant industrial facility.

The move is seen as a strategic step toward restoring full operations at the moribund plant, which has faced years of inactivity due to a combination of power supply challenges and ownership disputes. Linking ALSCON to the national grid is expected to address its long-standing energy needs and boost its potential to contribute to Nigeria’s industrial growth.

Government officials described the initiative as part of a broader plan to revitalize key industrial assets and enhance economic development in the region.

More details on the implementation timeline and expected capacity upgrades are expected in the coming weeks.
