Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reiterated his commitment to the implementation of the ARISE Agenda, affirming that no amount of distraction or smear campaign will deter him from fulfilling his social contract with the people of the state.
Reacting to a viral video circulating online, the Governor described the development as a deliberate attempt to malign his character and unsettle his administration ahead of its second anniversary. He made this known while responding to questions from Government House correspondents during his arrival at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo, where he attended the 60th birthday celebration of former Deputy Governor, Obong Nsima Ekere.
“We are in political times, so you expect more of this,” Governor Eno stated. “My family is intact—you can see everyone here with me. The event being referenced in the video took place immediately after the passing of my wife last year. So, why is it trending now? Why is it resurfacing on the eve of our administration’s second anniversary?”
He expressed concern over what he described as a pattern of deliberate distractions aimed at undermining his administration’s progress. “This teaches me that there are detractors around. But again, my family is united. Jane is here, Helen is here with her husband—we are a good, supportive family.”
Governor Eno also cautioned against the emotional harm such content may cause his children and others who have experienced grief. “The pressure on young people after losing a loved one can be traumatic. I appeal to the public: don’t resurrect painful memories. I have already suffered the loss of my wife; allow her peaceful soul to rest.”
He emphasized that he remains undistracted and fully committed to his duties. “I can’t be distracted. I remain focused and will continue to serve Akwa Ibom people. I wouldn’t wish what happened to me on anyone. So if those spreading this content wish it for themselves, I wish them luck.”
Governor Eno also used the occasion to congratulate Obong Nsima Ekere on his 60th birthday, on behalf of the government and people of Akwa Ibom State. He prayed God to continue to strengthen him with long life, sound health, and the wisdom to contribute further to the development of the state and the nation.
