Port Harcourt, In a candid statement that has stirred political circles, former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has publicly declared that Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), remains the only Igbo man he still fears.
“This is not a political statement, it’s a pure fact,” Wike said during a recent interview aired by Chummy Television Channel.
Reflecting on his earlier views, Wike admitted he once believed Kanu would follow the path of other Biafran agitators like Ralph Uwazuruike. However, he said Kanu’s unwavering stance on Biafra and his resistance to financial inducement set him apart.
“Money can’t buy him over,” Wike said. “The kind of money that has been offered to this man could pull his entire generation out of poverty forever, yet each time you go to him, he will tell you one thing: ‘It’s either Biafra or nothing.’”
He went further to describe Kanu as a figure of deep conviction, emphasizing that he is not someone who can easily be silenced.
“He’s a man you can’t kill, you can’t imprison, and you can’t keep down forever,” Wike declared. “A man with such conviction will one day win, because faith that refuses to bow to power will always rise above fear.”
Wike concluded with a powerful remark: “When truth becomes your only weapon, no prison can hold you and that’s why Nnamdi Kanu remains feared.”
The comments come amid ongoing debates over Kanu’s continued detention and the federal government’s handling of the IPOB movement, which has gained both national and international attention.
