The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has inaugurated a Media and Publicity Committee ahead of its 60th Anniversary celebration, scheduled to take place from October 29 to 31 in Abuja.
The newly constituted seven-member Diamond Jubilee media team will be led by Chimezie Anaso, Chairman of the Anambra State Chapter of SWAN, with Emmanuel Akpan, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom Chapter, serving as Vice Chairman.
Other members of the committee include Hembadoon Rosario, Chairman of the Benue Chapter, who will serve as Secretary; Ahmed Amshi, Vice President (North East); Jacob Onjewu, Secretary of the Kaduna Chapter; and two graphic and infographic design specialists.
According to the appointment letter signed by SWAN President Isaiah Benjamin and Secretary General Ikenna Okonkwo, the committee’s mandate took effect on October 6 and will extend beyond the anniversary as a standing committee for media and publicity-related functions.
“We write to formally convey your appointment as the Chairman and members of the Media/Publicity, SWAN Diamond Jubilee/60th Anniversary and Beyond,” the letter read. “Your appointment is due to your track record of dedication and drive for positive results and achievements which you have been identified with.”
The national leadership tasked the committee with engaging a broad spectrum of media platforms—including print, online, and electronic outlets—to ensure widespread visibility of the anniversary activities.
In addition to event publicity, the committee is also charged with enhancing the SWAN official website by ensuring it is regularly updated with relevant and engaging content.
The terms of reference further encourage the committee to “evolve creative and practical ways that will ensure robust and steady content generation and dissemination” in the lead-up to the Diamond Jubilee.
Committee members are expected to maintain “the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism in all interactions,” the statement emphasized.
