Nsit Ubium, In a bold move to fast-track education reform in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Umo Eno on Monday paid an unscheduled visit to the site of the proposed Model Secondary School in Ikot Akpan Abia, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, reiterating his administration’s commitment to delivering world-class educational facilities across the state.
Describing the project as a cornerstone of his ARISE Education Renewal Initiative, Governor Eno stated that the school would merge academic excellence with practical skill acquisition, preparing students not just for university but for life.
“We are building not just classrooms, but centres of creativity and skill. Our vision is to redefine education to meet global standards,” the Governor said during the site inspection.
He revealed that similar model schools would be replicated across the three senatorial districts to ensure equitable access to quality education. The Nsit Ubium campus is scheduled to open for student intake by September 2026, he added.
Key Features of the Model School:
Fully equipped skills acquisition centres offering training in ICT, catering, metal works, and entrepreneurship.
A 10-hectare school farm to support agricultural education and promote student self-sufficiency.
Infrastructure designed to support both academic and technical learning, aimed at making the schools “polytechnical” in nature.
Construction is set to begin once the supplementary budget is approved. Governor Eno emphasized the use of multiple contractors to fast-track delivery and ensure community participation, urging all contractors and job seekers to register on the State Employment Portal for transparency and inclusiveness in recruitment.
