Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Uyo Zonal Directorate, have arrested 49 suspected internet fraudsters in a sting operation across different locations in Akwa Ibom State.
According to a statement from the anti-graft agency, 31 of the suspects were apprehended on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Ikpa Road, Ekpri Nsukara, Nwaniba, and Shelter Afrik Extension in Uyo. The remaining 18 were arrested two days later, on Wednesday, September 24, at Oron and along the Calabar-Itu Road.
Those arrested include undergraduates, traders, and artisans allegedly involved in cyber-related crimes.
Items recovered from the suspects include one car, 54 mobile phones, and nine laptops.
The EFCC noted that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion.
