Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested two men in connection with the vandalism and theft of electricity cables belonging to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) company in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, the suspects were apprehended in the early hours of Saturday, September 6, 2025, following a tip-off from a concerned community member.
A police crack team dispatched to Nkap village reportedly caught the suspects, identified as 33-year-old John Joseph Udo and 37-year-old David Anthony Udo, both of Ifoho village in Ikot Ekpene, while they were in the act of vandalizing electric cables on a farmland. The stolen cables were recovered at the scene.
DSP John disclosed that investigations are ongoing to trace more stolen items and identify the buyers of the vandalized infrastructure. She added that the suspects will be charged to court after the investigation.
The Command commended the vigilance of the youth whose prompt action aided the arrest, stressing that community partnership remains vital in protecting public infrastructure and curbing criminal activities across the state.
