UYO, The Akwa Ibom State Petroleum Products Monitoring Committee (PPMC) has appealed for calm among residents as the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) prepares to withdraw services across the state beginning Thursday, August 7.
In a statement issued Tuesday night, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Godwin Ekpo, disclosed that proactive steps are already being taken to address the grievances raised by IPMAN and forestall any breakdown in the supply and distribution of petroleum products.
Hon. Ekpo reassured the public that the committee is engaging all relevant stakeholders to resolve the matter amicably, stressing that the PPMC remains committed to ensuring the uninterrupted availability of fuel and other petroleum products in the state.
“We are fully aware of the concerns raised by IPMAN, and we are working tirelessly to prevent any disruption that could negatively impact the lives and livelihoods of our people,” Ekpo said. “We urge Akwa Ibomites not to panic. The committee is on top of the situation and will continue to work towards a peaceful resolution.”
The planned withdrawal by IPMAN, if executed, could affect fuel supply across the state, triggering queues and possible price hikes. However, the PPMC has assured residents that contingency measures are being put in place to mitigate any potential fallout.
