Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has donated a parcel of land to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for the establishment of barracks to host a Forward Operational Base (FOB) in the State.
Governor Eno made the presentation of land documents on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, to the Government House, Uyo.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peace and security, the Governor described the new base as a strategic addition to the State’s security architecture, especially in protecting Nigeria’s international boundaries.
“We thank you for the Air Force base that is going to be strategically located in Akwa Ibom State. With this forward base operation, the Air Force is now fully integrated into our security structure, and we welcome you wholeheartedly,” Eno said.
He noted that Akwa Ibom’s status as one of the country’s most peaceful states was a result of deliberate investment in security, assuring that the government would continue to partner with all security agencies.
Governor Eno also praised the standard of education at the Air Force School in the State and requested concessions that would enable more Akwa Ibom children gain admission.
In his response, Air Marshal Abubakar commended the Governor for the donation, describing it as a bold step in boosting national defense and homeland security. He said the FOB would enhance the security of critical assets such as the Ibom Deep Sea Port, the BUA Refinery, and the proposed Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Plant.
“This development would not only strengthen territorial protection but also support Akwa Ibom’s position as a leading investment and tourism destination,” the Air Chief stated.
He further acknowledged the strategic collaboration between the State and the NAF, particularly the transfer of the Eket Airstrip to the Force, which he said would extend air power in the Niger Delta region.
On hand to receive the NAF delegation were the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong; Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr. Aniefiok Johnson; and members of the State Executive Council.
