Uyo, In a major breakthrough in its ongoing clampdown on criminal activities, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered a substantial cache of suspected stolen public and government property from two scrap dumps in Uyo.
The successful operation was carried out following actionable intelligence obtained during a separate raid. According to a press statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, the first suspect, identified as Aniekpeno Essien Isaac, was arrested around 4:45 PM on July 15, 2025. His confession led police operatives to two targeted scrap locations believed to be hotbeds for stolen items.
Later that evening, around 9:00 PM, the Command’s operatives stormed the identified sites and apprehended three additional suspects:
Moses Indiana
Nwokoro Onyemelum
Nnabuike Okonkwo
A wide range of items believed to have been vandalized or stolen from public infrastructure were recovered. These include:
Pieces of generator sets
Suspected government aluminum electric cables
Roofing sheets
Burnt copper electric wires
A new set of assorted spanners
Half a bag of 5-inch nails
An empty 5KG gas cylinder
Galvanized pipes
Angel bars
The recovered materials point to possible acts of sabotage and systematic looting of government installations.
DSP Timfon John stated that investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the recovered items, uncover the wider network involved, and prosecute those responsible.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying intelligence-led policing strategies to rid Akwa Ibom of criminals and ensure public assets are protected.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
