In a firm declaration against criminal activities, the Executive Chairman of Esit Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Uduak Ikemesit Ikot, has warned that her administration will not condone any form of criminality, but will instead champion a peaceful, safe, and law-abiding community.
Hon. Ikot issued the warning on Friday during the official familiarization visit of the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, to the council secretariat in Uquo.
Addressing stakeholders, security operatives, and community leaders, the council boss urged residents, especially the youth, to engage themselves in meaningful ventures that would enhance their personal growth and contribute to community development. She emphasized that her administration remains committed to working closely with security agencies to fish out criminal elements and ensure they do not return to threaten the peace of the area.
“There is no room for bad gangs and criminal associations in Esit Eket. We will not fold our arms and watch miscreants disrupt our peace,” she said.
She assured law-abiding citizens of the council’s commitment to safeguarding lives and properties through strategic partnerships with law enforcement agencies.
Responding, CP Azare applauded the maturity with which the people of Esit Eket handle security matters and encouraged sustained vigilance. He cautioned against acts of vandalism and jungle justice, warning that perpetrators would be prosecuted in line with the law.
The Commissioner also advised police officers to shun illegal detentions and brutality, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and community trust. He urged citizens to report crimes promptly to aid effective policing.
The visit drew a large gathering of dignitaries, including the Vice Chairman of Council, Hon. Eddy Etangkanga; Leader of the Legislature, Hon. Ndifreke Etieket; Member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Udobia Udo; Secretary of Council, Comrade Godwin Elijah; traditional rulers, political leaders, women and youth groups, and other stakeholders.
