The Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKSFA) has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria on their crucial 2-0 victory over Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier and assured them of a warm reception in Uyo ahead of their next encounter against Zimbabwe.
Nigeria bounced back to winning ways on Friday with an impressive away victory in Kigali, thanks to a stunning brace from star striker Victor Osimhen. The win boosts the Super Eagles’ chances of securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Speaking on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Victor Attah International Airport, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State FA, Mr. Samuel Umoh, commended the team’s resilience and dedication, describing the victory as a morale-boosting result that has reignited hope among Nigerians.
“We are proud of the Super Eagles for this very important victory against Rwanda. It was a game that demanded character, and the boys delivered brilliantly. On behalf of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association and the good people of Akwa Ibom State, we say congratulations. This win has brought joy to millions of Nigerians,” Umoh said.

Welcoming the team to Uyo, Mr. Umoh assured that the Akwa Ibom State Government and the FA have made all necessary arrangements to ensure a seamless and memorable experience for the players, officials, and fans at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

“Akwa Ibom is home to the Super Eagles. We are fully prepared to be worthy hosts once again, providing everything needed for a hitch-free match. We are committed to creating the right atmosphere that will inspire the Super Eagles to victory on Tuesday, March 25, against Zimbabwe,” he added.
The crucial encounter between Nigeria and Zimbabwe is set to kick off at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. A victory for the Super Eagles will further solidify their push for a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
